Episode 42 – Insidious

The much belated Insidious episode! Belated because it’s weeks after our last episode, belated because we recorded this weeks ago, and belated because I’ve wanted to talk about this movie since we started the show. Where Ashlee loves Blumhouse because of Paranomal Activity, I love the studio because of the Insidious franchise. Of course, you can read all about my love of the franchise in my blog post about it.

Don’t forget to listen to our episodes on Insidious: Chapter 3 and Insidious: The Last Key!

I hate making excuses, but they are interesting excuses, so I’ll talk about them.

We finally have a new mic setup! I got a USB mixer so Ashlee and I can each have our own mics and the show won’t sound like a conference call anymore. It’s changed up my workflow, though, and I should have gotten some pop filters too.

We also have a sponsor this week. I’m proud to talk about Multiplex 10. I’m a big fan, and the creator, Gordon, is my go to movie buddy for the movies Ashlee won’t see. Multiplex 10 is an animated short and an ongoing series about a b-movie fan and a film snob who work together at a movie theater, so I highly recommend, listeners!

It took me forever to record the promo because I’m awful at speaking into a mic by myself in a room. The spot took about 200 takes. I’m still learning how to do this stuff, but hey, that’s why I do this show.

And lastly, the show got pushed back because we lost my grandfather. We were close, so it was devastating. My grandfather was always interested in what I was up to, so explaining to him what a podcast is and that Ashlee and I were making a radio show in our living room was fun. I never played the show for him, but he though it was cool.

Sorry to end on that bummer note, but that’s where we are at today. Thanks for sticking around, and get ready for our next episode – Insidious: Chapter 2!

Episode 37 – Jessabelle

Wheelchairs! Bathtub Ghosts! Tarot cards! Voodoo! Reno 911!

We’re back, talking about 2014’s Jessabelle. Ashlee and I also settled on Wednesdays as our official recording day, which is going to make it a lot easier to fit the show into the rest of our schedules.

Next week’s movie is Martyrs (2015).

And as we mentioned on the show, we lost a friend of the show – Dustin Pace, aka duddyinmotion. He was a sweet guy and a wonderful artist who was beloved in the horror community. Please consider contributing to the memorial fund to help his wife Tiffany.

The Gift was one of the best films of 2015. I hope you saw it. I did not see Sinister 2, but Ashlee tells me all about it in Episode 7. Bughuul is just too scary for me.

Season 2…almost halfway there!

Episode 6 – The Gift originally aired on August 31, 2015. Episode 7 – Sinister 2 originally aired September 15, 2015.

Season 2 Coming Soon!

Season 2 of A Blumhouse Divided is coming soon!

Season 1 vanished because we cheaped out on webhosting. I’d love to get everything back online, but it’s unlikely at this time. Eventually I’ll upgrade the hosting so episodes are up for more than 90 days at a time.

We’ve recorded one episode for The Darkness so far, and this weekend we are watching Hush on Netflix. There are some other movies we’ll try to record episodes over the long weekend. The goal is to have these stockpiled and continue with our biweekly schedule.

The format for Season 2 will basically remain the same as Season 1. Episodes will be 10 to 20 minutes long as David (me!) interviews Ashlee about the latest Blumhouse films we’ve seen. Occasionally I’ll go on a rant and make the show about myself. Just kidding. I try to edit myself out when I steal the spotlight. The show is about us watching movies as a married couple, but I really do want to focus on what Ashlee thinks about the movies. I have Twitter for my bargain bin film theory.

I am also working on a new intro! Ashlee’s tired of me bumbling through every introduction, so we’re going to produce a nice one to use each episode.

Season 1 of A Blumhouse Divided was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to bring the show back. Thanks for listening!
