Episode 46 – The Town That Dreaded Sundown

The Town That Dreaded Sundown might be my favorite movie we’ve watched for the podcast. In this episode we talk about the 2014 remake of the classic slasher, it’s connections to American Horror Story and Archie Comics, and what exactly a slasher needs to do to get us invested.

Episode 39 – Happy Death Day

Happy Halloween!

I’m getting this episode in just under the wire. I don’t like to make excuses, but between school, work, and an internship, I can honestly say that the podcast’s priority gets buried.

But Ash and I still make time for movies, and we saw Happy Death Day on Friday the 13th. What a special film. It’s so much fun, and I think it’s fantastic that an original story can do so well critically and financially.

When we started this podcast, it seemed silly to focus our efforts as fans of one very specific little studio. But I think we were right on the money with Blumhouse as a studio, a brand, and an icon of the genre. It paid off in 2017. Get Out, Split, The Belko Experiment, and now Happy Death Day. And what a year for horror in general! IT‘s massive success is going to have huge influence on the next few years of the genre.

2018 is shaping up to be even greater with Insidious: The Last KeyThe Purge: The Island, and Halloween already slated on Blumhouse’s schedule for next year! I know this sounds like an end of the year reflection post, but I think in a way, Halloween signals a time of renewal and transition in the horror genre.

Thanks for listening, and I hope you had a horrifyingly happy Halloween! Please remember to subscribe, review, and share the show!
